Caiden’s 6th Birthday

This past weekend we had the opportunity to celebrate Caiden’s 6th birthday.  As I was getting ready for the party I couldn’t help but remember all the trials of the first year of his life.  The time spent in the hospital from birth-9 months.  The surgeries, waiting, testing and more.  Each and every day wondering when it would be over.  And then finally having the last surgery (at almost 10 months) and praising God for His hand on our son’s life.

There were many uncertainties in that first year.  Many times where I wondered and asked why.  Many times where I knew the pain that my son was in, but was unable to help him.  But as I look back I see God’s hand in every single step.  He called us to Dallas and even though we weren’t initially planning on having children in Texas, God blessed us with a beautiful baby boy (less then one year after moving down there).  When he was born we discovered that there were medical complications that would take several surgeries the first few months of his life in order to correct.

But we were in a hospital where there was a high level NICU… if we had been in Ohio, he would have been transferred to a different hospital, in a different city, and I can’t imagine that.   Caiden had 4 surgeries (3 planned) the first 10 months of his life (starting at day 1) and God brought him through each and every one.  It was difficult being away from family at that time, but God provided us with a great church family and community where we lived that were awesome support!  The seminary body was also there for us, it was amazing to see God work through His body to support us.

Even after the final surgery the doctors told us that there would/could still be issues in the future.  We are still seeing some today.  But doctors also told us that it was would be impossible to train Him to use the bathroom, which has not been true.  We have seen God’s hand on Caiden’s life from day one!  Our prayer from before He was born was that Caiden would be a blessing to ALL he came into contact with.  That His life would be a testimony to God’s greatness and love!  And to this point it has been!

I can see how Caiden’s touches lives on a day to day basis.  He is one of the most friendly, accepting and loving kids that you will meet.  And he is a blessing to not only his family, but to all he meets (even if it is just the kid standing next to him at the zoo where they talk for 5-10 minutes about animals they are seeing).  He loves Jesus and you can see that love shining through in his care for everyone around him!  I can’t wait to see how God continues to use him and his testimony in the future!  I am blessed to be his mom and I am sure his dad says the same thing!

Happy 6th birthday Caiden!  May God bless you with many, many more!  And may you continue to grow in Him and be a blessing to ALL around you!

Love Mommy & Daddy!

  1. Wow… Yes, I would have to agree with everything that was said! I am extremely proud of Caiden, and the two other boys. It is an extreme pleasure (and sometimes challenge) to be Caiden’s daddy! While I was supposed to be training Caiden to be a loving disciple of Jesus Christ, he has done more of the training than I. Every step he takes, I sit with awe and excitement!
