Why Are They Falling Away? – Part 1

Proverbs 22:3 “A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

Proverbs 22:5-6 “In the paths of the wicked lie thorns and snares, but he who guards his soul stays far from them. Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

1 Peter 5:8 “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Joshua 1:7-9 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

TURNING FROM AND QUESTIONING WHAT THEY BELIEVED IN

Recently I have been saddened to see and hear a lot of tragic stories of young people (high school, college age, just out of college) who were raised in Christian homes and have professed faith in Jesus Christ at a young age falling away from the Truth.  The stories of their lives have burdened me even more to the ministry that God has been calling my husband and myself (college and young adults).  They are stories of believing the lies of modern society, of grabbing onto the false teachings and twisting of the Truth and of not being rooted and grounded in the Word of God.

The Bible warns us that Satan is like a lion, seeking  whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).   Picture the lion on the prowl (watch video of lion stalking prey).  Lying in wait.  Camouflaged.  Ready to spring on the weak, those who separate from the Truth (don’t have a strong base aren’t surrounded/supported by true/strong believers).  This is a very real danger, not just towards our youth and young people, but also towards “young” believers.

The Bible warns us to the tactics of Satan, yet our young people and our young believers aren’t rooted and grounded in God’s Word.  When you don’t have a firm foundation or a strong base on which to stand or fall back on and trouble hits or twisted truth is presented (that sounds so much better then what the Bible REALLY says) that is what you grab a hold of and start to live by.

When you are living by a corrupted set of beliefs it gets harder and harder to see the real truth.  It is like looking at the world through different colored glasses.  After a while you don’t even realize that your view is skewed. That is how Satan works.   You start believing one lie and it gives him a foothold.  It makes it so much easier to believe more and more and becomes a slippery slope.

My burden for this topic has kept me awake tonight.  I have spent time in prayer for those I know specifically who are dealing with this right now in their lives.  Young people who have slipped, bought the lies of Satan and have fallen away.  Some living outside of God’s Word.  Some rejecting God’s Word as Truth an relevant for Christians today.  Some who are questing what it is that they believe.  It pains me and makes me cry out in my spirit!

I spoke about the stories that I have been hearing lately – stories of falling away from childhood faith of questioning of doubt.  It is a story of a young girl who has followed Christ her whole life, yet longs for acceptance and love and is now living with her boyfriend.  It is a story of a young man who was raised in the Truth, but because of schooling and teaching no longer deems the Bible as relevant for today or church as important in a “personal” walk with Christ.  It is a story of a young man who’s knew the importance of being in the Word and spending time in prayer, but doesn’t believe in prayer anymore because the instant gratification, relief from stress is not there.  The stresses in life are so overwhelming that they make him sick physically.

Our society and our culture feed the lies they are believing.  But Satan is behind the lies.  Satan is great at planting seeds of doubt and letting them fester.  He camouflages the and twist the Truth and is patiently waiting and eager to see believers grab onto it (watch video again of lion lying in wait, camouflaged from view).  He knows the outcome and his fate, but he is going to do everything in his power to take as many lives down with him and he especially likes to see believer fall away.

This topic is too deep and God has been showing me too much tonight for it to fit into on post so I am going to be writing more.  I just had to share my burden and ask for you to pray with me for our young people.  Do you know someone that needs prayer?  Do you know someone that needs encouraged?  Do you know someone that is struggling and questioning?
